The model of journalism has been changed tremendously in Hong Kong in recent years. News can come from decentralised sources rather than the media institution. When we come to the world of digital media, there are formal rules and informal norms. When social media invades our everyday lives, we are also learning how to live with the social media. Digital media may change our values and lifestyles while we can change the society via social media. What are the rights and responsibilities of being an online citizen? Did the Hong Kong people demonstrate some tactics of using social media in the context of Hong Kong? How should we understand the use of instant messaging tools and use them morally? In this presentation we will explore the sociology behind the social media, including the power struggles and social relations. There are ethics helping us to use social media wisely. We can thus keep a good lifestyle and relationship with our significant others.
