Biography
Assistant Professor and Graduate Division Head at the Gender Studies Programme, Faculty of Social Science, CUHK Yiu-tung SUEN (DPhil in Sociology, St Antony's College, University of Oxford) is Assistant Professor of the Gender Studies Programme, Founding Director of the Sexualities Research Programme, and Adjunct Assistant Professor (by courtesy) at the Jockey Club School of Public Health and Primary Care, at the Chinese University of Hong Kong. His studies inform and are informed by critical current debates on sexual orientation and gender identity laws and policies, particularly with a view to providing empirical evidence which has been largely absent in Asia. In addition to being widely published in international peer-reviewed journals, he has consulted and written reports for the United Nations Development Programme and the International Labour Organization, and locally he led the largest-scale research in Hong Kong Equal Opportunities Commission’s history of commissioned research. He is an Adviser and Past Vice-Chairperson of AIDS Concern Hong Kong, in addition to giving advice to organizations in numerous sectors informally. He has been frequently invited to speak to a wide range of audiences including policy makers, business leaders, lawyers, health care professionals, and service providers, and his research has been widely covered by international and local media. |
