Biography
Mr Kelvin So is a passionate marine conservationist dedicated to promoting marine conservation in Hong Kong. He is now working in WWF-Hong Kong as a Project Manager, Oceans Conservation, focusing on advocating more Marine Protected Areas in Hong Kong and building up community stewardship with the local stakeholders at selected priority sites from a bottom-up approach. Since 2018, he has worked with the team to implement the community-based conservation program for minimizing the clam harvesting issue, with the first design of clam gauge and code of conduct for clam harvesting activity in Hong Kong, at the identified priority area, Shui Hau, Lantau. This project demonstrated a successful case in building community stewardship with the local community. In 2021, he led a new pioneer project partnered with the scuba diving industry, utilizing the “Train the trainer” concept to incorporate marine conservation elements into regular dive-training courses. By riding on the positive feedback from the diving communities, he launched a “Mind Your Fins” campaign with the support of diving instructors to remind scuba divers to pay attention to their fins and thus reduce damage to corals. Kelvin holds an MSc in Environmental Management from The University of Hong Kong and a BA in Education for Sustainability from The Education University of Hong Kong. |
