Reimagining our Land and Sea: The Fragrant Harbour's Nature Despite the name 'concrete jungle', Hong Kong has extraordinarily diverse biodiversity and environment: it hosts more than a quarter of marine species found in China; 40 percent of our land lies within country parks; its wetlands are important shelters of 90,000 migratory birds in East Asia every winter. However, it also faces eminent challenges: it is at the heart of global wildlife trafficking crime; one-third of land is not regulated by any land use planning; it is affected by the severe pollutions in the Pearl River Delta Region. In this thematic session, we are revisiting the beauty of our Fragrant Harbour's biodiversity, reflecting on its challenges, and searching for the hope for a better future. Speakers
